"Spot Barry"

On Sunday May 9th 2010, starting at Blackpool Tower, a small wooden baton named Barry heads north towards Scotland on an epic journey around the coast of Great Britain. He will be carried by hundreds of runners (called coasters) from trundling joggers to those crazy ultra runners who are quite happy to do 30 miles plus. Anybody and everybody can take Barry just that little bit further in his coastal calling. A journey that no other baton has ever taken. An historical first and unique journey celebrating out wonderful varied coastal regions and the running community of Great Britain.
So, sometime between May 9th and late September, it is estimated, Barry will be bounding in your back yard if you live in a coastal town. The precise time Barry will pass you can only be estimated and these are the estimations for our first stretches:

Blackpool to Gretna 9th-16thMay
Gretna to Stranraer 16th-23rd May
Stranraer to Ayr 23rd - 30th May
Ayr to Oban 30th May -6th June
Oban to Ullapool 6th -13th June
Ullapool to Durness 13th-20thJune
Durness to Wick 20th-27th June
Wick to Aberdeen 27th June - 4th July
Aberdeen To Edinburgh 4th July -11th July
dinburgh to South Shields 11July-18th July

The remaining stretch dates will be confirmed at a later date. Anyway, Barry wont be far away from you whether you live near the coast or whether you just happen to be on holiday, you might just see the legendary Barry or a runner you suspect may be carrying him. Perhaps just take a trip and see. If you are around the Scottish coast , for example at the times given above, take a picture of a runner you suspect may be carrying Barry and email it to us. At the end of the event we can draw from our virtual hat, a winner of a special prize(to be decided) and all accurate spottings entered will get a “I spotted Barry” certificate. To prove you spotted Barry (or runner) just name the place and time so we can confirm it.
